Well, today’s been tough, I have to say.
Cheese, chocolate and most importantly wines…

Decided to go for a drive with Adam, and ended up north of Sydney in the Hunter Valley. And what better to do when up there than go see a few wineries?

Mind you, the effect on the wallet is noticeable, but it’s worth it. My wine rack is now well and truly full, and the bar fridge is stocked. Now all I need to do is build that bar I have half-completed, and I might have earnt my right to move up one or two social rungs! hehehehe

Unfortunately it does mean my hail-damaged Subaru might take a little longer to get repaired…. *sighs*

Right in the middle of vintage too! Was it crowded? We are thinking of going up during the week next month.

I nearly vomited when I read hail-damaged Subaru. Is it covered by insurance or do they exclude hail these days?

  I know. I am not a happy Gussy!
  She’s going to need a new bonnet, and some work on the roof and boot. And also a full re-spray and paint protect. Thankfully it is covered under insurance and they’ve agreed it’s a valid claim.
  
  The thunderstorm happened a few weeks ago up at Bathurst… massive storm with 2cm hail that lasted about half an hour.
  
  Interestinly enough.. my Subaru was the only car that sustained significant damage! Some people attributed to the fact that Subies have relatively thin panels (offset the weight of the chassis?)?

They’re not in the hunter (and neither do they bother with anything as commodity as grape wine), but I reccomend http://firescreek.com.au/.

I went there recently and picked up a mixed half-dozen – a couple of Elderberry wines, a Pear+Guava perry, and a couple of chili+orange wines too.

Really really good stuff.

    It’s much, much nicer than it sounds.
    
    Think of a very nice desert wine. Now, make it about 25% lighter, and about 50% less sweet.
    
    Take out the flavour of grapes, and substitute an orange flavour and a mild citrus tang.
    
    Add in a very, very mild chilli afterbite – so mild that if you hadn’t read chilli on the bottle, you would barely be able to tell what it was. I don’t know how they do it, but when I say “after”, I mean “after” – it hits a good two-three seconds later than the rest of the flavors.
    
    That’s something very odd you’re thinking of, and probably nothing like the real thing, which has to be tasted to be believed.

It is good to see you back posting, Gus. I have not caught up with your posts or explored volacious.net but I will get there. I think I am going through a post-midlife crisis at the moment.
