Apt or Fit to fly

Looks like I’ve got a bit more travel ahead of me shortly. Early August, I’m getting on a plane and headed to Beijing for the duration of the Olympics. I’ll be there looking after our customers (i.e. major TV broadcasters) with onsite support in case everything f**ks up. I’m quite chuffed to have been asked to go… will certainly be good experience.

One thing I do know… I will have to learn some Chinese. Not only do I hear that speaking in Chinese instantly drives down the prices when in a shop, but it also helps you get better quality food and drink when in restaurants.

Question for my readers…
Have you been to China? If so, do you have any tips for me??

Adam says he doesn’t mind me going to China as much as he minded me going to Amsterdam (and London) earlier this year. After all, he knows my preference isn’t with Asian boys (or at least so I told him! I know few hot asian boys that I would love to drag off to my lair).

Even though, Silly boy! It’s the Olympics! Not only will I be around foreign TV and TV-type people all day, but the atheletes!!! I don’t care who I have to bribe or kill, I am going to get myself to the Swedish Swim Team‘s after-party!

Now there’s a challenge! :-)

For those that don’t know, Adam and I moved house recently. We haven’t moved a huge distance, in fact, the new place is literally 300 metres down the road, but the style of living is substantially different.

Our new backyard is huge. No, it’s absolutely massive. Naturally, Shelton LOVES it. Lots of space for him to explore. Only problem is that it is substantially overgrown. A week or two after we moved in, we had to secure the fences to keep Shelton in, which meant of course that we had to FIND the fence in the first place. Machete and shears in hand, Adam and I ventured into the Heart Backyard of Darkness. What we found was quite astonishing. No, not the tribe of natives that some of my friends believed were living out there, but instead not one but TWO buildings we didn’t know we had! So that’s 4 buildings, not including the house itself. Yes, in inner-suburban Ryde! And still we couldn’t find the back fence. Whilst building a fence along my “line of demarcation” between ours and the adjacent property, we were approached by a haughty old lady that was next door and had lived there for about 40 years. She told us the story about the property, that the original owners kept sheep, alpacas, chooks and goats on the property, and the buildings we found were most likely the old shearing shed and a feed storage building.

What she also slipped into the conversation was that the ol’ shearing shed Adam and I cleared out was the site of some interesting happenings a few decades ago, when two skeletons were found inside. Human skeletons. Perfect!

Can’t say we don’t have a house with history! That being said, I am determined that this will be the last rental property I go into. I’m so sick of moving, I really am! The time and money it takes up, and the way it throws your entire life into disarray for an entire month.

Still, we’re getting closer to making this house our home. The more furniture we set up, the less we’re reminded of it’s tacky 50′s decor and brick-patterned wallpaper. I’m still a little hesitant to go up in the backyard by myself, but maybe in time I’ll get the courage. After all, Shelton will protect me…. right?

Back on Air

Welcome back all!

So I’m back on air after a lengthy downtime. I was thwarted from blogging by the PC-gods, who saw fit to sabotage my server’s power supply, and take out the motherboard with it. That, combined with the house relocation factor, has meant I’ve been without computer or interwebs for over 2 weeks… the pain, the pain of it all!

However, I’m back up and firing, with a new PSU and motherboard. Thankfully the power supply didn’t destroy the chip as well, and motherboards are relatively cheap if you know where to go.

There is much to talk about… stay tuned!
